32nd Sunday in Ordinary Time

Wisdom 6:12-16. My soul is thirsting for you, O Lord my God – Psalm 62(63):2-8. 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18. Matthew 25:1-13.

Jesus is the Wisdom of God

From the Wisdom of Solomon we are given a beautiful description of the feminine face of God. She is seen by those who look for her and to them she makes herself known. It is most likely that this book was written in Greek, in Alexandria in Egypt near the time of Jesus’ birth. It follows in some ways the Hellenised cult of Isis but emphasises that the promises made in that literature are certainly promised to Judaism, especially immortality. This comes to its fulfillment in the Wisdom of God given to us through the teachings of Jesus. To know Wisdom is to know God, and to know Jesus is to know God. Jesus is the Wisdom of God.
