ASCENSION OF THE LORD

Ascension of the Lord

Acts 1:1-11. God mounts his throne to shouts of joy: a blare of trumpets for the Lord – Psalm 46(47):2-3, 6-9. Ephesians 4:1-13. / Ephesians 1:17-23. Mark 16:15-20.

Go out to the world; proclaim the Good News

The last time we saw him he ate with us.
He told us to preach the Gospel everywhere,
and spoke of the signs that would follow:
go unharmed, speak in tongues, heal the sick,
And then he went from us to be with God.

His Spirit now goes with us. We speak of him,
sometimes in words, and small signs follow –
the smile of someone heard, the joy of company,
the gratitude of someone walked with,
the silence at the breaking of the bread.

And so we wait, somehow keeping faith.
And you – what signs are given you?
When do the living dead return to life,
the dying flame blaze up,
the distant God come close to hand?
