Give thanks to the Lord, his love is everlasting

Job 38:1, 8-11. Give thanks to the Lord, his love is everlasting – Ps 106(107):23-26, 28-31. 2 Corinthians 5:14-17. Mark 4:35-41.

Even the wind and the sea obey him

It had been a long day for Jesus. He had been teaching all day, surrounded by crowds of people following him and seeking his help. No wonder Jesus wanted to get away for some peace and quiet. He must have been so exhausted that even a raging storm could not prevent his sleeping through it. As the waves grew higher and stronger, the disciples were terrified. In their panic, they woke him, even accusing him of not caring about them. Is this how we respond to Jesus as we experience the stormy periods in our lives and are afraid of drowning? Or do we try to control ‘our’ boat all by ourselves? Perhaps the question for us is: do we trust Jesus? Do we turn to him when we are in need knowing, deep in our hearts, that Jesus is always with us?
