THE ASSUMPTION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY (Solemnity)

FEAST OF THE ASSUMPTION

Apocalypse 11:19; 12:1-6, 10. The queen stands at your right hand, arrayed in gold – Ps 44(45):10-12, 16. 1 Corinthians 15:20-26. Luke 1:39-56.

The Almighty has done great things for me

Mary inspires us in so many different ways. There’s the young woman blessed by God, agreeing to bring Jesus into the world. There’s the mother at the foot of the Cross, watching her Son endure painful death. There’s the figure who remained an inspiration for the early Christians. And of course, on the Feast of the Assumption, there’s Mary given a privileged place in Heaven.

In today’s Gospel reading, I can’t help but be inspired by Mary the expectant mother, dreaming of the future that her child will bring into the world. I can imagine the joyful moment this must be for her.

Thank you Mary for your hopes and dreams. We ask that you pray for us so that we too might realise the dreams God has for us.
